The BMW 3.0 CSL already succeeded in gaining the title of European champion during the first year of its career. Five other titles were to follow. The works cars with their characteristic striped design and large spoilers dominated the touring-car scene. Works and private teams won numerous national and international races. A number of spectacular successes were also achieved for the IMSA Series in the USA.
First fitted with 3.0 and later with 3.5 litre four-valve engines, the BMW 3.0 CSL was one of the most powerful cars to line up on the grid. Consistent development and the use of turbochargers enabled the power of the engine to be raised to 950 bhp. In 2015, this replica was built by tuning company Schnitzer in conformity with Group 2 regulations for Historic Motorsport and racing taxi rides in accordance with the FIA Regulations Annex K.
