At the International Geneva Motor Show in early 1954, BMW presented the type 502 with a 2.6-litre, eight-cylinder alloy engine. With 100 bhp, this model was one of the fastest touring cars on the market. In 1955, Stuttgart coachbuilder Baur cooperated with BMW to present two-door and four-door convertibles and a coupé based on the BMW 502.
Only 57 convertibles and 24 coupés were built in the years 1955 and 1956 to customers’ orders and marketed via the BMW dealer network. Today, they are some of the rarest BMW classics from the post-war period.
