Alfa Romeo - 33/2 Litri "Daytona"
Special Exhibition19

In 1967 Alfa Romeo, through Autodelta, the official racing division, decides to make the big leap in the prototype category (2 litre), at the time the largest international stage for motor racing.

The “33/2 Litri” debutes in the hill climb race of Fléron, in Belgium, and the new Alfa immediately takes victory with Teodoro Zeccoli, the official test-driver of Autodelta: there are the conditions for a new season of successes.

Next year the 33/2 takes part in the races since the beginning of the season: in February the Autodelta team wins at Daytona 24 hour race (class win) with Vaccarella-Schutz, then at Nuerburgring 1000 kms (Galli-Giunti), at Imola 500 Kms (Vaccarella-Zeccoli) and, at the end of September, at Le Mans.

In 1968 edition of the circuit de la Sarthe marathon, the three Autodelta 33/2 litri, with a specific aerodynamic configuration – the long tail “tipo Le Mans” – take the first (#39, Giunti-Galli), the second (#38, Facetti-Dini) and the third place (#40, Casoni-Biscaldi) in 2 litre prototype class, that means the 4th, 5th and 6th overall places.

The “33”, with its V8-90° engine is the leader of the 2 liter class and its streamlined style, with the two pairs of superimposed headlights, becomes one of the most loved second-half of Sixties racing cars.
