CORRIERE D’ELEGANZA XI – The Concorso D’Eleganza Villa D’Este

Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024 Corriere d’Eleganza X

Dear Friend of the Concorso,

A fantastic weekend lies behind us with unique automobiles. We were privileged to spend a wonderful time together with you in Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Como. Traditionally, one of the many highpoints is the conferment of the Trofeo BMW Group – Best of Show by the Jury. The recipient of this prestigious award was the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider built in 1932. The presentation of the trophy was accompanied by an 1815 Chronograph in white gold – a masterpiece created as a unique one of a kind by the manufactory A. Lange & Söhne especially for the winner.

The impressive open-top sports car was one of only ten examples ever built that were cloaked in these sophisticated, streamlined spider bodies styled by coachbuilder Figoni. The history of the car is also truly fascinating. This Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 was owned by the same keeper for 77 years. He looked after the rare sports car carefully but rarely took it out for a spin. It was therefore a sensation when this racing car was rediscovered in its authentic, original condition ten years ago. Today, the winner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024 is owned by a private collection in Belgium.

On the Saturday, the public audience had already voted to confer the Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este. This challenge cup was first awarded in 1929 and this year it went to the McLaren F1 built in 1995, brought to Lake Como by Tony Vassilopoulos from the United Kingdom.

On the Sunday, the public voted for another favourite. The spectacularly harmonious Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from 2023 received the most votes in the Public Referendum held on the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Public Day – Il Festival, visited by more than 12,000 guests in the park of Villa Erba. The 2024 Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes was conferred on this Alfa Romeo.

The international Jury of experts also selected a winner in each of the award classes made up of a total of more than 50 Historic Cars registered for the contest. Each of the second-placed automobiles received a Mention of Honour. We have put together a comprehensive overview of the Historic Cars awarded prizes for you to peruse below.
