Unconditional, superlative quality and advanced engineering were considered the key attributes which enabled Rolls-Royce to bask in admiration and critical acclaim during the early years.

The twelfth vehicle in this early series, which bore the official name 40 / 50 H. P., was given the nickname Silver Ghost because of its whisper-silent engine, the silver colour of the paintwork and the plethora of silver-plated components. The Silver Ghost gained fame on the back of a number of records accomplished, including a non-stop drive of more than 20,000 kilometres, completed by the car without a single breakdown. On the back of this renown, a decision was taken to market all vehicles in the series as “Silver Ghost”. The example presented here at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este was ordered by His Majesty the Maharaja of Mayurbhanj in 1922. He had the vehicle specially equipped for big-game hunting. Particularly impressive and monumental Gabriel hunting lamps were fitted, as well as holsters for two guns. Moreover, the unusual features adorning this one of a kind included various emergency seats. The current owner purchased the Rolls-Royce from its first owner in 1986. During a restoration some 30 years ago, the magisterial hunting vehicle was returned to its original livery colour. Today, it is an amazing example of craftmanship returned to its authentic condition down to the last detail.
