The success story of the BMW motorcycle began in the autumn of 1923, when the R 32 was shown at the Berlin Motor Show. The transversely mounted flat-twin engine, together with shaft drive, has remained one of the most characteristic features of a BMW motorcycle to this very day.
The successful overall concept and outstanding reliability of Max Friz’s R 32 design made it a milestone in the history of the motorcycle.
