BMW – 507 Touring Sport (1959)

During the late 1950s, BMW succeeded in creating an icon for all time with this sublimely beautiful roadster. The BMW 507 went down in history as an automobile of highly sophisticated sportiness. It was regarded as the epitome of elegance and masterful development of power. BMW had penned its own ideals with this roadster and announced its firm affiliation with the premier league. The German designer Albrecht Graf von Goertz (1914 – 2006) is considered to be the author of the design, having pursued a vigorous career in the USA from 1936. He succeeded in incorporating the double-kidney radiator grille – always a beacon of BMW iconography – in a horizontal arrangement. This was the sleight of hand that enabled him to create the seductively flat, elegant shape of the 507. The example originates from the second series and is one of the last 20 vehicles that BMW manufactured on 13th July 1959. The inspirational car came into the hands of its first owner in February 1960 through a dealer in Lisbon. Since 2005, this 507 has resided in Germany and a restoration was carried out in Italy in 2011 and 2012.
