The online registration for Historic Cars is now open and you are invited to register any vehicle that meets the official regulations.
Kindly note that different rules and regulations apply for dealers that would like to participate in the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2025. Please contact the Organisation Team at guest-relation@concorsodeleganzavilladeste.com in order to get more information.
Art. 1
BMW AG organises the “Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este” International Concours d’Élégance for historic cars at Villa d’Este in close cooperation with Villa d’Este S. p. A.
Art. 2
The event on 23rd – 25th May 2025 is planned for cars of any type or marque built up to 1995. The vehicle shall be preserved and maintained in a historically correct unmodified condition. A correct restoration to original specification is also acceptable. Modifications (deviations from specification) that took place in period (20 years for cars built between 1925 to 1945 and 15 years for cars built in other periods) are acceptable (proof of period modification may be requested). Out-of-period modifications such as a new or changed body or modern components are not acceptable. Components that are required to drive the vehicle in modern traffic are also acceptable (e.g. auxiliary fan discretely mounted, hazard lights or an auxiliary fuel pump in pre-war vehicles to accommodate modern fuel). The final inspection of cars with respective documents will be carried out on site by Concorso d‘Eleganza Villa d‘Este Committee Experts at Villa d’Este on Friday 23rd May 2025, from 09:00 – 17:00. For pre-arrivals the final inspection is also available on Thursday 22nd May 2025, from 13:00 – 18:00. The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is to be staged in Cernobbio as detailed in the full programme supplied to entrants.
Art. 3
Cars shall be selected on the basis of their historic, technical and aesthetic interest, their rarity and authenticity, as well as the elegance and sophistication of their styling. The Selecting Committee nevertheless reserves the right to accept cars, which do not fully conform to these requirements on the basis of a particular interest in such cars. Prior to the final selection of entrants, candidates agree to have their car inspected by a representative of the Selecting Committee, subject to appointment.
Art. 4
The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este welcomes applications from collectors and private owners but is regrettably unable to consider applications from dealers, brokers or owners who intend to sell their vehicles within the next 12 months after the event. By applying to enter, owners confirm that their car is not for sale, nor is a sale planned within the next 12 months after the event. If cars are shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and subsequently sold within this period, the Selecting Committee will not consider any further applications from those entrants for two years afterwards. A violation of this rule as well as a sale of the vehicle between the application and the event or a known offering or advertisement may result in exclusion from the event.
Art. 5
Cars admitted to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, with the sole restriction of one car per entrant / owner, must be in perfect running order at all times and provided with all necessary permits so as to be legally driven on the road. All cars must have valid insurance for road use in Italy and documentation as required by traffic law. Proof of this insurance will be checked during the final inspection of cars. All road trips shall, however, be made freely and individually and not in the form of an organised transfer.
Art. 6
The Selecting Committee will group the cars into classes according to reasonable criteria of similarity. The vehicles must line up on Saturday and Sunday in the areas provided for their class.
Art. 7
Cars shall be inspected and judged by the Jury during the Saturday and Sunday morning, as specified in the full programme. The entrant / owner or a nominated representative must present the car during the Jury’s inspection. Cars which do not attend Saturday’s and Sunday’s presentation will be excluded from the selection of the trophies and any trophies awarded may be revised by the Organising Committee.
Art. 8
The Jury will be divided into teams, each led by a Team Leader, responsible for the compilation and presentation of the results. The Jury shall be assisted by a non-voting Jury Secretary. In the event of tied points scores between two or more cars, the President of the Jury, after consulting the Jury members, has decision-making powers to which there is no appeal, including the right to modify his / her own vote in the event of a tie. The Jury’s decisions are final and thus no appeals or objections may be presented after publication of the official results.
Art. 9
The traditional focus of judging at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is on the design, styling, elegance and overall appearance of the Historic Cars. The judging process is conducted within a timeframe of approximately 15 minutes for each vehicle. During this appraisal, the Jury evaluates the originality and authenticity of the individual vehicle. These aspects encompass the correct performance of restoration for the interior and exterior of the vehicle, the mechanical aspects and the authenticity of the components used, along with their functionality. The provenance of the vehicle and its historical significance in terms of design and technology are also assessed. In order to qualify for a Preservation Award, the vehicle has to be liveried in the original paint finish and must feature the factory-installed interior trim. It also needs to be equipped with mechanical components that were originally fitted to the vehicle on the assembly line at the factory. Owners or their representatives will be asked to assist the judges in accomplishing their task, as the judges are not permitted to touch the vehicles.
Art. 10
Entrants / owners (or their representative) may during the presentation provide the Jury with any relevant documentation regarding their car and its history which they believe to be useful in reaching an appropriate evaluation. In the case of unique or unusual features, adequate documentation confirming any variations or options with respect to the standard model should be provided. Non-original safety elements such as rear-view mirrors, seat belts or fire extinguishers etc. may be allowed on condition that their fitting does not compromise the originality of the car. The Jury shall penalise highly unusual colour schemes and non-original chrome, nickel, cadmium or other metal plating. Replaceable parts such as tyres, batteries, spark plugs and so on should conform as closely as possible to the original items.
Art. 11
Decals, sign-writing, sponsors’ logos or race numbers are not allowed except for sports cars with a racing background and clear historical evidence of this. A club badge containing no advertising – not even partial – and no larger than 10 x 10 cm may be placed on the car.
Art. 12
The following awards will be voted and given to the winners during the event days 24th and 25th May 2025:
– “BMW Group Trophy” awarded to the “Best of Show” voted by the Jury
– “Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este” award voted by secret ballot (Public Referendum)
– Class Winners and Prix d’Honneurs voted by the Jury
– Special awards voted by the Jury
Due to the character of the prize-giving for the Best of Show by the Jury on Sunday evening and the handover of a significant prize by the sponsor A. Lange & Söhne, the Best of Show Award can only be awarded to the selected vehicle when the respective owner is present at the prize-giving ceremony and accepts the award in person.
Art. 13
Entries must be submitted using the appropriate form together with all necessary documents – including a comprehensive description of the vehicle, history and modifications, a front view, full side view and a three-quarter front view photo as well as photos of the interior, engine compartment, chassis number, engine and body number (where applicable) – for each car. Submitting a FIVA ID Card is optional. The invoices will be issued by BMW AG and must be paid immediately on receipt by credit card. According to the Terms and Conditions, a withdrawal of the registration is possible. Instead of a participation fee a cancellation fee will apply. Please check the Terms and Conditions for detailed information. The entrant / owner is responsible for his / her own travel and cancellation insurance.
Art. 14
With regard to hotel accommodation and meals, entrants / owners may choose between packages A or B, both calculated for a team of maximum two persons. These packages do not include hotel extras, bar expenses, special upgrade requests and, in general, any expense not mentioned in the above packages.
Art. 15
The Selecting Committee reserves the inalienable right to select entries. Rejected applications shall be notified as soon as possible. Given that the event is by invitation only and relates to the selected vehicle, the Selecting Committee will not accept substitutes for the cars or for the teams entered. Any request for substitution must be explicitly and formally approved up to six weeks before the start of the event.
Art. 16
Entrants and all other participants take part in the Concorso d‘Eleganza Villa d‘Este at their own risk. BMW AG, however, shall be liable for personal injury or death caused as a result of wilful intent or negligence on the part of BMW AG, its directors, corporate officers or agents. For any other loss or damage, BMW AG shall be liable only to the degree that such loss or damage has been caused as a result of wilful intent or gross negligence on the part of BMW AG, its directors, corporate officers or agents. This liability clause shall apply accordingly in favour of Villa d’Este S. p. A., its directors, corporate officers or agents.
Art. 17
These Regulations shall be governed by German law. Exclusive jurisdiction for all disputes arising out of or in connection with these Regulations or the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este shall be in the Courts of Munich, Germany.
