BMW – H2R (2004)

BREAKING RECORDS WITH HYDROGEN-POWERED VEHICLES.
The BMW H2R set a total of nine new records for hydrogen-powered vehicles with a combustion engine. Its 12-cylinder engine with six-litre displacement produced over 210 kW/285 hp, enough to accelerate the prototype from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in approx. six seconds and on to a top speed of 302.4 km/h (187.88 mph). 

The BMW H2R wrote a new chapter in history in 2004 by recording a string of nine world records. One of the new marks it set was a top speed of over 300 km/h (186 mph), which represented virgin territory for hydrogen-powered vehicles. Its engine technology was based on the 12-cylinder unit from the BMW 760i (E65), which had been adapted to run on hydrogen. Following its record-breaking exploits, the H2R was welcomed into BMW Group Classic’s vehicle collection. 

The BMW H2R hit the ground running once again in 2023 at the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed. To a backdrop of cheers from the assembled fans, it successfully negotiated the challenging hill climb course.
