"FASTER!" THE ARMS RACE ON THE ROAD

Ferrari - 250 GT Speciale Aerodinamico (SWB)
Class D44

This 250 GT was produced as a custom order in July 1962 at a time when Ferrari was manufacturing the sportiest and most advanced 250 GTs. The coupé was the final example in a series of just four cars to receive a very special hand-built body at Pininfarina. The sportsters all differed slightly in the detail lavished on them. The design combined the elements of the 250 GT Coupé front profile with those of the 400 Superamerica Coupé Aerodinamica. The bodywork was almost identical from the windscreen to the fastback rear end. Reputedly one of Enzo Ferrari’s favourite designs, the coupé was styled by Sergio Pininfarina himself. The body was combined with the 250 Short Wheel Base Berlinetta Competition chassis and powered by the awesome Colombo V12 engine producing 240 hp. This ultimate 250 GT combined an aura of grandeur with supreme power. Decked out in ‘Nocciola’ (Hazelnut), this Ferrari was fitted with opulent trim in matching light-brown Connolly leather, along with luxurious instruments and featuring electric windows. The original purchaser of this peerless coupé was Ferdinando Gatta, the Torinese Lancia concessionaire and son-in-law of Adele Lancia. Over a period of more than ten years, the automobile was showcased at the famous Maranello Rosso Collection in San Marino owned by Fabrizio Violati.
