Vranken Pommery Monopole was created when Maison de Champagne Pommery was acquired in 2002, and since then it has combined some of the most coveted champagnes across the world in its heritage portfolio. The premier cuvée “Louise” represents a tribute to Madame Louise Pommery and the impressive history of Domaine Pommery, and to this day is saluted as the queen of champagnes. Domaine Pommery’s prestige champagnes draw their famous finesse from outstanding grapes grown in the “Grand Crus” terroir in the vineyards of Avize, Aÿ and Cramant and from the long period of aging in the chalk cellars of the Domaine in Reims.

Visionary and exceptional champagne: Vranken Pommery Monopole
Vranken Pommery Monopole is our longstanding partner and the 2023 edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will once again enjoy the support of this uniquely prestigious champagne house. Virtually no other manufacturer has exerted such a profound effect on the history of champagne.
After the establishment of the group in 1976, Paul-François Vranken and Dominique Pichart worked together from 1978 onwards to revolutionise the spirit of their champagne. They created lighter, more modern wines full of verve and freshness. Today, this style characterises the champagnes of Domaine Vranken, which the house continues to develop through innovation and creativity.
Visitors descend down a wonderful staircase with 116 steps until they are 30 metres under the ground in veritable underground cathedrals. The ageing cellars of Maison Pommery are crayères or chalk pits dug out by the Romans 2000 years ago for use as catacombs. Each of what are now galleries was named by Madame Pommery after a metropolis to salute her customers across the world. The cellars form up to 18 kilometres of tunnels connecting numerous barrel and rib vaults where around 20 million bottles of the best years are still stored today. The result is a unique subterranean city decorated with impressive bas-reliefs sculpted in the chalk by renowned artist Gustave Navlet.
