Every year, car enthusiasts from all over the world gather in Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Corno to admire a selection of milestones from the history of the automobile and a collection of exciting concept cars. The enchanting backdrop and the exclusive setring of the Villa d'Este and the Villa Erba make this famous competition the most prestigious event of the year.
The first edition of the Coppa d'Oro di Villa d'Este, the Concorso Internazianale d'Eleganza for cars, dates back to 1929 when the event was organised by the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este, Automobile Club di Corno and Comitato di Cura di Corno. The most important coachbuilders of that era presented their latest creations to the public for the very first time at this event set in the park of the Villa d'Este. The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este was forgotten for more than three decades before being reborn in 1995 thanks to Jean-Marc Droulers, CEO of Villa d'Este ti11 2011 and now Honorary Chairman of the Concorso.
Over the years, the event has succeeded in preserving all the elegance and exclusivity of its beginnings. The Concorso is now organised by the Villa d'Este and the BMW Group. The latter has been the patron since 1999 and has consistendy worked to promote its development.
61 exceptional vehicles will be talking part in the Concorso d'Eleganza this year at the Villa d'Este, which will be opening its gates to participants, the media and special guests on the Saturday as usual, and at the Villa Erba on the Sunday. Make sure you don't miss out on the spectacular processions of some stunning "classics" and today's most extravagant concept cars. There will also be various new features at the 2012 Concorso d'Eleganza. The gates of the Villa Erba in Cernobbio will open on the Friday evening for the Public Day (which will then continue on Saturday and Sunday). While the opening gala dinner for special guests is taking place at the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este, an open-air cinema will also be open to the public at the nearby Villa Erba.
