Villa d’Este near Lake Como was the setting for Concorso d’Eleganza 2009 to which participants were invited from 24th to 26th April.
The BMW Group Classic and the Villa d’Este have joined together in celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Consorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este by publishing this prestigious year book.
The Year Book 2009 includes a short history of the Concorso d’Eleganza, the programme, presentation of the Jury, a site map, and the regulations of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2009. Naturally, a listing of the automobiles taking part in the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2009 is also included. Around a dozen modern concept cars and prototypes bear witness to advanced design. This year book presents around 50 of the most beautiful automobiles in the world from the 1920s to the 1970s and makes this volume a memorable experience for friends of sophisticated, classic automobiles.
High-quality colour drawings depict the style of the automobiles that were entered for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2009, conveying the sense of elegance and the perfectly contoured design of these automobiles. The drawings were executed specially for the Year Book of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este by British artist Brian James and they reflect the artist’s art-deco style. The image representing the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is a homage by the artist to the winner of the first Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It shows the Isotta-Fraschini Type 8A, which won the first prize awarded at the event in 1929 with a body designed by Sala and hence launched the Coppa d’Oro.
The picture of this timeless, beautiful automobile was immortalised on the cover of the Year Book. A wonderful selection of atmospheric, historic photographs from the archive of the Villa d’Este provides another attractive feature. The accompanying text in the Year Book has been written in Italian and English.
